Your Soul Colour is...

WHITE

"White is not a mere absence of colour; it is a shining and affirmative thing, as fierce as red, as definite as black... God paints in many colours; but He never paints so gorgeously, I had almost said so gaudily, as when He paints in white."
- Gilbert K Chesterton

So what's so special about white as your soul colour? More than just the colour of snow, the various shades of white all form a delicious palette of possibilities. Cool whites are tinted with hues of blue and green, for example shades of frost, chalk, and milk. Warm whites are tinted with hot tones like red and yellow. Think cream, vanilla, biscotti, orchid and bone.

If white is your soul colour, you're attuned to all the different shades of white, and how they work together to evoke a sense of stability, peace and harmony in your life. If you're drawn to cool-based snow white, the following quote by John Wesley may speak to you: "Cleanliness is, indeed, next to Godliness."

With white as your soul colour, you are efficient, practical and organised. If you're more drawn to warmer tones of white like cream and oatmeal, you may be seeking safety and security. Romantics tend to love mother of pearl and champagne shades, which add a touch of glamour, but still with an underlying sense of order.

If white is your soul colour, you crave healing, wholeness and completion. Your soul yearns for the highest truth. Chances are that you desire a deeper sense of tranquillity to manifest in your life.

White is the colour of innocence and hope. Bringer of light at the highest level, white represents holiness, purity and integrity. Along with its close cousin cream, it also tends to be the shade of choice for minimalists.

On the shadow side, you have to guard against feelings of isolation, emptiness and boredom. White can be uncompromising - everything is clear, open and explicitly manifest. This can make it a rather uncomfortable colour if you do not wish to have your hidden feelings reflected back to you.

Keep in mind that white provides the potential to move towards every other colour, as it allows development and growth in any direction. It's a great choice to meditate on for new beginnings.

The Magic of White

Want to lighten up?

Close your eyes and imagine that you are standing on the magnificent white crystal mountain. Inhale deeply, allowing the clear white light emanating from the mountain to purify, energise and enlighten you. Visualise yourself letting go fo all the heavy and unnecessary baggage that you dragged up the mountain with you. Feel your body softening and lightening up, and give yourself permission to soar!

Use the following mantra: 'Divine Power, I give myself permission to experience ease in my body, mind, and soul.'

So How Does Colour Work?

Each colour the human eye sees emits light rays of a particular wavelength, frequency and quantity of energy, which exerts a subtle effect on your energy.

The ancient Egyptians loved colour and used colours for their healing properties, and there is no doubt that colour has a profound effect on your emotions and wellbeing.

Just as ultraviolet can impact on your skin, all the colours of the spectrum emit different energy frequencies that alter everything from your brain activity to your heartbeat. These effects differ according to the wavelength of the colour.

Vibrant colours such as reds and pinks are stimulating and increase blood pressure and pulse rate. Softer, cooler hues such as blues, greens, aquamarines and lavenders are more calming and help slow breathing and the autonomic nervous system.

Can You Imagine a World Without Colour?

Colour enhances and enriches so many aspects of life. It is the ultimate expression of vitality. Have you ever looked at a scene and instantly felt happy and at peace? Chances are you were responding to the colours on display. Even the smallest splash of colour has the power to instantly transform an object or landscape. Different colours also trigger different emotions, and knowing how to harness this gives you the power to get to know yourself a whole lot better. In fact, there is a whole science behind colour and mood.

Colour is subjective. But despite the individual nature of our reactions and responses, it is important to look at how colour works - in theory and in practice, in nature art and in science - before considering ways of using it successfully in our own surroundings.

Colour works on three different levels:

  • Colour connects us to nature. We associate blue with the sky and water, green with plants and trees, and red with the earth. When you see a particular colour, you remember how it feels to be in nature, which is healing in itself.
  • Colour connects us to our emotions. Toxic experiences are often associated with certain colours, just as pleasant memories are evoked by others.
  • Colour connects us to our culture. All cultures have colour associations and these are strong iconic images stamped into our consciousness. For example, in the West, white is associated with purity, cleanliness and weddings, whilst in many Eastern cultures it is linked to death.

The Power of Colour

Here are a few more ways that you can use colour for healing, emotional mastery, stress relief, and to feel more radiant and alive.

  • Picture yourself connected to the Earth by a golden column of energy running through your body. As you inhale, imagine golden energy streaming into you, flowing over your head, surrounding you. This brings a beautiful sense of connection to all-that-is, and can help to eliminate fear, which often blocks the path to transformation.
  • Breathe in the colour of your choice. As you breathe in, imagine pulling the coloured light down from the cosmos through the top of your head. Imagine a fountain of brightly coloured light showering down and, as you breathe it in, imagine it permeating your being and filling you up from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. While doing this, affirm, 'I give thanks that I am bathed and protected in the light of the highest.'
  • When you're experiencing strong emotions such as anger or resentment, visualise yourself in a sea of nurturing, calming aqua or blue.
  • Close your eyes and imagine holding the most beautiful purple flower. Breathe in its luscious scent, and invite its delicate sweetness to open your heart. Then imagine divine purple light flowing from the flower into your heart space. Allow the purple sweetness to fill your entire being. Enjoy the feeling of love and connectedness.
  • When studying, wear something yellow, use a yellow bulb in your desk lamp, or write on yellow paper to help you retain information.
  • In need of some nurturing? Make yourself a cup of hot chocolate, and sip it slowly. Allow the glistening brown, colour of the Earth, to nourish your body and soul. Use this time to write ten nourishing things you can do for yourself in your journal.
  • Magenta is the colour of your deepest inner knowing, as well as clarity, truth, and faith. Meditate on magenta before you fall asleep, and ask a question of your Higher Self. Allow the answer to float into your mind, or see if it arrives in a dream.
